History
Dr. Mikao Usui at first used Reiki only on himself, later also on his family. This was so successful, he began to treat others as well. His practice grew and he had many students.
One of his students, Chujiro Hayashi, later on took over his work. He founded a clinic and also trained a great amount of therapists.
Hawayo Takata was suffering from a serious illness, but recovered in 1935 in Hayashi's clinic. Afterwards she wanted to practice Reiki herself. She became a Reiki Master in 1938 and was designated to become the successor of Chujiro Hayashi. Her dedication to Reiki remained with her for the rest of her life.
Hawayo Takata introduced Reiki in many parts of the western civilization. During her life she trained 22 Reiki Masters.
Her grand-daughter Phyllis Furumoto became the successor of Hawayo Takata. She is the Grandmaster of the Usui System nowadays.
